Political leaders of the Vanguard Initiative renew their commitments to growth through smart specialisation

The political message of the Vanguard Initiative that regions, smart specialisation and cluster-based interregional cooperation are keys to new growth, has been widely recognised and positively received by a wide range of partners and institutions committed to EU industrial and economic growth. At the moment a new European Commission is preparing new European strategies for growth. The annual meeting of the Vanguard Initiative will take stock of these evolutions. The partners will reiterate their engagement for a new approach to growth and job creation through mobilising regional resources and eco-systems for common European priority areas in innovation and industrial policy on the basis of smart specialisation.

The Vanguard Initiative Regions are committed to inter-regional collaboration that will deliver demonstrable projects and programmes that are capable of being replicated at scale. Therefore we collaborate closely with the European Commission to develop pilot initiatives such as for the Smart Specialisation Platform for Advanced Manufacturing.

What makes the Vanguard Initiative unique is the commitment, at the highest political level, to collaboration, co-creation and co-investment in projects across not only member regions, but also with anyone who has the relevant expertise and specialism to develop European value chains in priority areas.

This political commitment will be renewed at the second political meeting of the Vanguard Initiative in Milan. This annual event will take place on 13 November, back-to-back with the Europe Innova conference on Emerging Industries in the framework of Italian EU Presidency.

The main focus of this political meeting will be on preparing our joint work forward, especially in relation to the possibilities to contribute to the European Agenda for more effective innovation investments, with a clear goal of growth and jobs.
