VI Policy Experts discuss the future EU Cluster Policy for Growth

Monday, October 20, 2014 - 10:30

On 20th October 2014, the Vanguard Initiative organised a workshop dedicated to the European Cluster Policy, just before the fourth European Cluster Conference being held in Brussels.

Around 30 high level policy experts from 16 Vanguard Initiative regions attended the meeting and had fruitful discussions about existing policies, main barriers and missing links to be addressed in the forthcoming European Cluster Strategy for Growth. The workshop also gave the opportunity to agree on the way forward and key priorities for a renewed EU cluster policy, and to acknowledge the specific role of clusters and of smart specialisation strategies in the perspective of the Commission’s industrial policy roadmap and new growth agenda. The Commission (DG Enterprise – Unit D5 « SMEs : Clusters and Emerging Industries ») attended the workshop as observer. A final statement pointing out key messages was adopted as Vanguard Initiative’s early contribution to the development of the future European Cluster Strategy for Growth. Those messages allowed to feed in the debate at the European Cluster Conference. The participants also discussed the further involvement of Vanguard Initiative Regions in the reflection, with the next step being the Vanguard political meeting in Milan (13 November).
