Presentation of the Region
Region Dalarna is responsible for publicly financed healthcare, medical care and regional development.
The Region Dalarna’s elected Assembly consists of 83 members. These politicians are also active as members in different boards within the Region Dalarna. The Region Dalarna Executive has 15 members.The total area of Dalarna County is more than 28 000 km². In one form or another the Region Dalarna operates all over this area with almost 9 000 employees who give service to the county’s 281 000 inhabitants in 15 municipalities.
Region Dalarnas innovation policy and RIS3 builds upon the Dala Strategy. The Dala Strategy’s focus area, Innovative environments and entrepreneurship, emphasizes the significance of the business sector’s capacity for change and competitiveness. Specialized products and services are to continue to be developed within the areas of strength in Dalarna in national and international collaboration. Such products and services create business opportunities and contribute to addressin the social challenges of today and tomorrow.
Region Dalarna is participating in the Vanguard Pilot Advanced Manufacturing for Energy Related Applications.
RIS3 Priorities
Based on in-depth analyses and close collaboration with partners across the innovation system, several key knowledge areas have been identified as having strong potential for future development. These areas also provide platforms for continued collaboration and innovation. By working together within these fields, stakeholders will develop solutions to today’s and tomorrow’s societal challenges and contribute to sustainable regional development in Dalarna. Two cross-cutting perspectives are central to innovation efforts in Dalarna. They ensure that innovation, transformation, and development take place in a way that is sustainable, inclusive, and long-term. These perspectives are both goals in themselves and essential tools for achieving sustainable smart specialisation. They are integrated into all roadmaps and projects and are crucial for meeting current and future societal challenges.
Gender equality and inclusion
Ensuring equal participation and influence of women and men in business and innovation is an increasingly important driver of growth. Gender equality allows skills and talent to be used more effectively and strengthens the region’s capacity for innovation. When people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives come together, new ideas and solutions emerge.
Digital transformation
Strong digital capabilities among companies and organisations are essential for change and competitiveness. By increasing digital maturity and expanding the use of digital technologies across sectors, new opportunities can be created, and existing businesses can grow and evolve.
All areas have developed roadmaps that should contribute to Agenda 2030, the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, as well as to the objectives of Dalarna’s Climate and Energy Strategy.
