Gävleborg

Presentation of the Region

The region of Gävleborg has a long history of strong primary and secondary industries, especially in Steel and Forestry Products. Innovation is at the heart of this industrial base and we have strengths in many of the areas identified as pilots under the Vanguard Initiative. Our strengths in materials, bioeconomy, suatinable production and advanced manufacturing provide a wide range of opportunities for collaboration. Large multi-national industrial corporations as well as small, highly specialized SME´s make up the base of the industrial landscape and are complemented by a growing start-up and service economy.
The University of Gävle, a young institution with leading applied research on Geospatial Data, Sustainable Logistics and Lean Manufacturing ar University, collaborates actively with universities and institutes within Sweden and more widely, and is open for future industrial development and further engagement in inter-regional activities.
Gävleborg is actively collaborating with our neighboring regions of North Middle Sweden (NUTS SE31) where we collaborate on both Smart Specialisation and within an EU pilot for Industrial Transition, together with 11 other regions within the EU.
