Presentation of the Region

Renewing the manufacturing industry is at the heart of Tampere Region’s development. We aim to keep our position at the forefront of manufacturing regions by combining new technologies to our products and services. We use new ways of doing things in our innovation ecosystems: e.g. innovation platforms, system trials, demonstrations and international co-creation.

Our smart specialisation strategy focuses on creating talent, building capability and catalysing business and innovation ecosystems in fields like manufacturing industry, health and bio sector, circular economy and smart cities. These are also the spearheads of the smart specialisation strategy of Tampere Region. Our actors rely on key enabling technologies, such as computing, signal processing, photonics, AI, advanced manufacturing and biomedicine. Continuous innovation ensures our industry aims at global markets not just now but also in the future.

We see interregional cooperation as an essential part of our regional development. Our university community together with companies looks to Europe and beyond.

Tampere Region grows steadily and it has the second largest population among the Finnish regions (518 703 inhabitants in July 2020). Tampere Region is home to almost 1 in 10 Finns.
