The main focus of the new Demo project will be to provide last-mile services to industry and SMEs.
AI is considered an enabling technology, impacting on all industrial applications. The first step for theimplementation of a new technology in the industrial environment is to test and validate its application in a real testing environment. How to reach  this goal was the  process led by the AI&HMI Technical and Scientific Committee which reached the conclusion that a Laboratory structure may let all kinds of industrial enterprises, and namely SME, to address needs and develop specific AI enabled solutions. 
An agile Laboratory structure is very much suitable to be easily integrated into industrial regional specialized districts, such as:
- Smart Agriculture
- Advanced Manufacturing (Manufacturing4.0) 
- Healthcare
- Automotive
- Digital Humanities

The objective of this demo case is an AI-bases process optimization with regard to energy and resource efficiency. The main goals are: (1) optimisation of process ramp-up (technical development) of new products and after changes in production stream and (2) monitoring and optimization of the running production processes.

The solutions are expected to be also suitable for industrial verticals such textile production, plastics and related materials where (1) the results of the ai-based solutions lead to new process parameters for new/similar products, by applying ML algorithm together with former experiences. This can also be used to counteract the demographically induced shortage of skilled workers. Applying ML algorithms for condition monitoring of processes (2) possible failure can be a priori reduced and the data obtained by monitoring can also be used to optimize the processes and systems. Optimized processes are characterized by reduced downtimes and minimized scrap and thus lead to an increase in efficiency in the use of resources and energy.
In this case also machinery and software provider could improve their products and services for the addressed industry sectors.

iSense demo mission is the exploitation of AI techniques for modeling from data in the development and use of soft sensors. The overall objective is to apply a set of data-driven intelligent algorithms and methods (AI) which will help to realize the soft sensors or fault detection (FD) systems; fully automatic design of sensors by analyzing process data and to decrease the costs of setting up the sensors, and FD systems and to improve the control and management of a large number of industrial systems.
