Friends of Smart Specialisation are pleased to have been accepted to organise a session at the second Regions in Recovery Conference in 2022  Regions in Recovery Global E-Festival 2022

Top-down sectoral meets a bottom-up place-based perspective: love at first sight or a marriage of convenience?
Thursday, March 31 9.00 AM – 11:00 AM CET.

This is an exciting time for smart specialisation which now has to deal with a more top-down European approach (green and digital twin-transition and National Recovery Plans). So, how can S3 play a bridging role with the NRP to deliver the best prioritisation process for twin transition investment choices which now include a stronger focus on sustainable finance? How can S3 or indeed S4 be mainstreamed within the new EU industrial strategy and a shift to a more challenge-driven approach embracing mission-oriented research, possible ERA Hubs, and innovation (Horizon Europe). What could be the spatial implications of such an approach and how do we strengthen a place-based approach based on multi-level governance?

We are pleased to welcome the following distinguished speakers who have a wealth of experience in this topic area.

  • Ninetta Chaniotou, Regional Council of Kainuu,
  • Laura Roman, Technopolis Group
  • Markku Markkula, President of the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region and former President European Committee of the Regions.

Join the workshop and find out. We will welcome your views.
