The circular bioeconomy and the health economy are among the most dynamic industrial sectors with a lasting impact on sustainable development and the central themes in the European Intelligent Specialization Strategies. Despite the common intent to strengthen multinational governance structures for cooperation, the lack of interregional funding opportunities for research, development and innovation projects has hitherto limited the full exploitation of bio-based or health-related value chains.
Part of international networks such as EUSALP and Vanguard Initiative, the conference encourages international cooperation by attracting institutional representatives to share strategies and financing opportunities on circular bioeconomy, health economy and sustainable development.
The conference will present the Innovation Express 2021 experience, the pilot synchronized call for interregional cooperation. Funded by existing national/regional funding programs, Innovation Express 2021 is managed by participating funding agencies to initiate, develop or enhance transnational exchange activities between applicants. The lesson learned from Innovation Express demonstrates the great potential of the replicability and transfer of this interregional financing scheme to other macro-regions.
