ESM Plenary Event: the achievements of 2021 and the future plans for 2022

On the 9th of December the final event of the Efficient and Sustainable Manufacturing Pilot take place, co-coordinated by Giacomo Copani (AFIL, Lombardy), Patrick Vuillermoz (Polymeris, Auvergne Rhone-Alpes) and Joan Guash (Eurecat, Catalonia).

After a preliminary introduction of the Pilot, each demo-case had a dedicated session to detail its objectives and to share new proposals of use-cases of interest:

  • De- and Remanufacturing for Circular Economy demo-case led by Prof. Colledani (Politecnico di Milano, Lombardy) presented the current use-cases and the main outcomes of demo-case projects: FiberEUse for composite recovery, CarE-Service for electromobility, and DigiPrime for the development of services boosting circularity in different sectors. Two new use-cases have been proposed by Slovenia on textile recycling and on Lombardy for the treatment of metal slags.
  • Digital Transformation demo-case, presented by Prof. Gusmeroli (Politecnico di Milano, Lombardy), summarized the ongoing activities among which the AI REGIO project and showed the main opportunities coming in 2022 within different calls and initiatives. A new use-case has been proposed by Catalonia on use of drones for intralogistics.
  •  Polymer-based functional products demo-case, presented by dr. Vuillermoz (Polymeris, Auvergne Rhone-Alpes), described the existing use-cases in terms of participating regions, objectives and next steps and showed the outcomes of TAF service successfully submitted and received this year. Lombardy showed its competencies and interest to join the Smart Material use-case through a brief pitch.
  • Energy-flexible and resource-efficient factory operation demo-case, led by dr. Barbosa and dr. Baptista (INEGI, Norte), described the existing use-cases in terms of participating regions, current potentialities, and development strategies. A new use-case has been proposed by Lower Saxony on coupling and control of the energy management, through bi-directional loading of electric cars, energy storages and solar energy.

On the 10th of December, instead, a B2B matchmaking has been organized with more than 20 bilateral meetings among the registered stakeholders to detail and discuss the topics and the possible collaborations and synergies within ESM Pilot.
